The Jerk

The other night I was looking through my collection of movies that I have "borrowed" and was in the mood to watch "V For Vendetta" AGAIN..But it was too long and I wanted to watch something that would be over at around 4 A.M..I was thinking about watching the original "Omen" but was in the mood for a comedy...so I began to watch..

"The Jerk (1979)"

I actually fell asleep with 10 minutes left of this movie..but finished it the next day. A lot of people that I know say that this movie is..amazingly funny. Maybe I don't love the late 70's/early 80's movie style? It just was very boring to me..Like..O'Kay, it kept me interested and there was a lot of funny stuff in it..but it wasn't as good as everyone I know claims it to be. My one manager at work says it's one of the funniest movies ever..

This movie is about this white guy who's adopted and he's somewhat stupid, and he's adopted by a black family (and he does not realize he's adopted..told you he was stupid.) So they tell him he's adopted and he realizes he wants to see what's out in the world or some shit like that..so he leaves his black family and goes out into the real world. I really didn't find Steve Martin that funny..I dunno. I found him more fucking annoying then funny. I don't know..

There's no score to the movie, like pretty much a good majority of 70's/80's comedies. Just a bunch of songs going along with the scene..totally out-dated, although I knew the one song, believe it was called "You Belong To Me." Otherwise I think there's one more song..that's it. It's a mostly quiet movie, just a bunch of dialogue. But it doesn't hurt..

One of the more under-used jokes in the movie is that the dogs name is "Shithead." Everytime he called the dog..I was laughing. No matter what the situation. The flow of the movie was weird too..the story wraps up abruptly and very fast..I don't know. You can also somewhat tell this movies just a bit out-dated.

Basically, I suggest seeing this if you want to watch a decent comedy and haven't seen it already, but don't go into it thinking it's going to be one of the funniest movies ever..because I found it to be WAY over-rated...Which is a shame because I love a good comedy..
