"A Little Guilt Goes a Long Way..."

"The Machinist (2004)"

I'd heard good things about this movie..pretty good things. Someone reminded me to check it out so I put it to my Netflix queue. It comes in..I watch it. Completely blew me away.

"The Machinist," is about a guy named Trent Reznik who hasn't slept in over a year. He begins to see this guy who seems to be a figment of his imagination and starts to question his own sanity.

Christian Bale is amazing as Trent Reznik. If you are unaware, Christian Bale lost a lot of weight for this role. He was down to 120 pounds. In the movie he looks like he could be Jewish and they just pulled him out of Auschwitz or Dakkar. Christian Bale is a great actor and I never knew it until now. I thought some of his acting in "Batman Begins," was a bit..meh I guess but in this he just is wonderful.

Jennifer Jason Leigh plays a regular prostitute to Reznik and also seems to be his best friend. Jennifer Jason Leigh is wonderful in the movie as well although in one of the behind the scenes clips she explain her thoughts on the movie and I think she misses the point. She says it's about what lack of sleep can do to you and she thought it was interesting but like I said, I think she completely misses the point. To me it was a story of what GUILT can do to you, the lack of sleep coming from the guilt...but at least she does a good job acting. Along with Jennifer Jason Leigh all of the supporting cast is wonderful too.

The thing about "The Machinist," is you have to be in the mood to watch it..or you may not like it because it's not your kind of flick. It's mostly dialogue driven and purely atmospheric. There aren't really any huge action scenes and all that. Don't expect to see Jewish Holocaust Survivor look-a-like Christian Bale making a gun and then going crazy with it..If you don't get into the movie it's just going to be boring to you.

One of the things that I really loved about the movie was the point of the movie. 'Bout time you get to the end you start to really care about Mr. Reznik and I found myself saying "Wow, this poor bastard.." and the ending kinda' just took me by surprise. I also LOVE the tag line for the movie: "A little guilt goes a long way..." Really good stuff.

Overall this movie is a real "mind fuck," as they call them. It was to me at least. The movie opens up and doesn't stop feeding you new information (real or not,) until the end. This movie moved Christian Bale up and he is now one of my favorite actors. Following this movie he did "Batman Begins," where he had to bulk up..that must've put a beating on his body. Dedication much?

"The Machinist," is a great movie. I definitely suggest checking it out. One of the better thrillers to come out in recent years without a doubt.

Numerical Review: 8 out of 10.

The Hobbit! New Lines? Don't Do This!!

For the love of Christ..New Lines...STOP.

This just in
: Peter Jackson may be officially OUT of making "The Hobbit." I don't give a shit if there are other directors out there, etc. I want to see Peter Jacksons version of "The Hobbit," not someone elses. Doing this would be completely fucking retarded...COMPLETELY retarded. A letter was sent to "Lord of the Rings," fan site The One Ring from Jackson and crew regarding this matter and why this might be happening. You can read the whole letter here.

I'm praying this all works out and Jackson somehow gets back on board. If not I will be nowhere near as excited for "The Hobbit," as I would've been with him directing it.

The First Ever RomComZom.....

"Shaun of the Dead (2004)"

What the hell is a RomComZom? A romantic comedy with zombies (as it says on the poster!) Not only is it the first..it's probably the last because this movie is virtually fucking perfect. There are some minor flaws but overall "Shaun of the Dead," has to be one of my favorite recent comedy flicks. Maybe it's the British humor? I have no clue but it's WONDERFUL.

If you remember the trailers for this movie they are misleading as to how damn funny this movie is. From what I can remember the trailers show some of the good scenes but for me it seems like they put the spotlight on most of the lame jokes. Due to this I was very uninterested in the film until someone I know recommended it to me. I was blown away by it when I watched it because most of the comedy in the movie was MUCH smarter then what was shown in the trailers.

How's the acting? Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Kate Ashfield all play their roles perfectly. In fact, everyone in this movie does a great job. Every single one of them.

Direction, good..the camera work is great. There's a great scene that happens twice just with a different enviornment where Shaun (Simon Pegg) walks to a convenience store down the street from his house and back. Both scenes are all one shot and it's done perfectly. They're really great scenes and both unique.

Finally..I want to point out that this movie has an awesome soundtrack and probably uses a Queen song in one of the coolest and most perfect ways possible. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen the movie but it's perfect and another great scene from the movie.

I've seen "Shaun of the Dead," at least 4-5 times and I still love every second of it. There are even some jokes you won't catch until your 3rd or 4th time viewing it which makes the repeated viewings even better. If you haven't seen it definately check it out.

Numerical Review: 8 out of 10.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have a new movie that will be coming out soon called "Hot Fuzz," which looks like it's going to be just as good as"Shaun of the Dead." Check out the trailers for "Hot Fuzz," here!

Also! In case you missed it check out my previous post for a link to the leaked Pre-Trailer that has real footage of Venom in it! There's also a .gif of the footage which is good to glance at too. Whoever made it screwed around a bit with the colors it looks like and it's much easier to see. Not to mention slower moving so you can really get a good glimpse of Venom's look.

Holy Motherfucking Shit!!! VENOM!

I am PSYCHED! My day wasn't going so hot..but this just made my day! Remember that Comic-Con footage shown where Venom was shown at the end? Well this video leaked earlier today. I guess it's a "Pre-Trailer." It's a trailer in the making, incomplete effects work and even some storyboard pictures are shown in some spots..but in the end..guess what's there in crystal clear quality? VENOM!!!! ENJOY!

Update (11/13): The original file was taken down so I added a new one, unfortunately the only one I could find was one where even more tags were slapped on it. Thanks MakuOnline you selfish asses, like it wasn't hard enough to see already, not to mention there's a watermark on the video in almost every scene already..

Update (11/14): The last video I posted was removed too! At the moment I am unable to find a working youtube video. So instead here is a gif of the Venom footage. Click here! I just found a place hosting the video! You can watch it here!

Real Pictures?

I don't know if these pictures are real but they're very fucking cool looking none-the-less. Pictures of a CGI Venom. From the film or not they're very cool.

You can find them here. The site is in German but...who cares. As long as you can see the pictures. They're really cool looking and look exactly what I would want Venom to look like.

Like I said last time, I'll see what I can do regarding a new post! I'm trying for Saturday night. Until then, enjoy the pictures and enjoy life!

No Venom Equals a Sad Kevin..

I was going to rant and bitch but..I decided not too. I'll just have to suck it up and wait. Really lame shit. No Venom in the trailer which was lame. Part of me is infuriated but part of me is happy they're holding it off. I just think it is extremely unfair that people at Comic-Con caught a glimpse of him and the rest of the world can't cause they aren't able to get there or in my care are poor as hell..Dunno. You should be able to view it here.

I'll work on posting something..I'm gonna be very busy tomorrow and Saturday. I'll try to get something up on Saturday night though if I can find the time. Until then enjoy the trailer which apart from no Venom is quite good...

Countdown and Link.

After the new "Spider-Man 3," trailer premieres on T.V. it will be on iFilm for all to enjoy. Want the iFilm link? Click here!

If I do not see the tiniest sneak peak of Venom tonight on my Television screen/Monitor I am going to come on the computer and bitch like I've never bitched before! Hopefully none of you will have to read it. Hopefully I shall' return in an hour a happy man...

Will We All Finally Get to See Venom???

There will be a new "Spider-Man 3," trailer premiering on television TONIGHT! They're calling it a "road block." It will be on the following channels: MTV, MTV2, Comedy Central, Logo, VH1, BET, Spike TV and CBS. The trailer will premier at approximately 10 O'clock (ET/PT.)

I will be watching tonight and I am hoping we will finally get to see some shots of Venom! After the trailer premiers it will be posted online on some MTV affiliated web page. I will post up a link ASAP tonight.

I am prepared to see Venom. Sony, don't deny me of it again like I was denied of seeing the Comic-Con footage because I'm to poor to attend. Please!?

Murder In The Outback

"Wolf Creek (2006)"

First off, I like the poster. It's not my favorite poster out of the ones used but I do like the idea of this one. I think this one is probably my favorite. They're all mediocre posters though..nothing special. I guess it fits the movie well though...

This is a good movie. It's above average but it's not great. I've seen mixed reactions over it but I personally enjoyed it. The basic plot is there's a guy and 2 girls in Australia just partying it up and vacationing. They go and visit this huge piece of land where a meteor hit in the past. The ground rises like a mountain then once you hit the top it sinks like a bowl...it's real and amazing to see. I believe it's called "Wolf Creek," as well..hence the title of the movie.. So, they go and visit this site. Come back to their car and it's dead. This guy, Mick Taylor comes along and offers to fix the car so they get towed back to his living area and it basically turns into a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," kinda' thing going on where a guy is hunting them down.

What I like about the movie is that..personally for me it wasn't packed with clich'e moments. There was only one really clich'e moment that bothered me while the rest of the movie stayed as far away from them as possible.

The movie is paced a bit akwardly but I liked it. The first 30 minutes is basically all getting to know the characters and so-forth with no cheap scares or anything like that. Then the shit hits the fan and doesn't stop. All the actors are really fucking good...like, they're really good. John Jarratt is especially good as Mick Taylor.

The direction is good and I love the camera work. It's very...hands on puts you right in the middle of the situation. The only thing that I dislike besides the single clich'e moment that happens about half-way through the movie is that the ending is very abrupt. It works but it's a very abrupt ending and sort of feels out of place. It does work though.

I can't wait to see the next movie from Greg McClean which sounds like it has potential to be real fun. Overall I really enjoyed "Wolf Creek," and for me personally it was better then more then half of the American horror flicks that are put out...way better. Even Australians do horror better then Americans.. America needs to step up their game and quit putting out these shitty clich'e horror flicks. Anyways, go and check out "Wolf Creek," I personally enjoyed it. Nothing to great but it was definately above average.

Numerical Review: 7 out of 10.
